Fairport Odyssey of the Mind

Two Fairport teams will represent New York State at the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals tournament at Michigan State University May 22-25, 2019.  The teams earned this honor by finishing first at the State Finals tournament on March 23.

In the technical performance problem titled "Hide in Plain Sight", a Brooks Hill team took top honors by solving the problem's objectives, adding stylistic elements, presenting a creative skit, and solving an on-the-spot problem.

In the classics problem titled "Leonardo's Workshop", a team comprised of Johanna Perrin and Martha Brown students recreated artwork by Leonardo Da Vinci, presented a creative skit, added stylistic elements, and solved an on-the-spot problem. They also finished first in their division.

Three Fairport teams were recognized in 5th place in their divisions: Fairport High School in "Hide in Plain Sight", Northside in "Structure Toss", and a Johanna Perrin/Martha Brown team in "OMER to the Rescue, Again".

A total of nine teams from Fairport competed Saturday, the largest contingent Fairport has ever sent to State Finals. Martha Brown finished 7th in "Opposites Distract",  Brooks Hill finished 9th in "Structure Toss", Minerva Deland finished 9th in "Opposites Distract", and Fairport High School finished 11th in "Leonardo's Workshop".

The two Fairport teams advancing to World Finals are the only teams from Region 14 to advance. In Michigan they will compete and celebrate creative problem solving along with 800+ teams from around the world.
